FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.       Can I get a firm estimate for the restoration of my car?  It is impossible to give you a firm estimate because some and many times most of the problems that will have to be corrected are hidden.  We treat each car uniquely, but our price remains firm: We will not charge more than $40.00 per hour for any work and some work will be done for less than $40.00 per hour.  All parts and restoration materials will be charged to you at our cost.  There will be no mark-up.

2.  How long does it take to restore a car?  Several factors dictate the amount of time, such as availability of parts, depth of rust, damage to the car, and our work load at the time you bring your car to us.

3.  Do you do frame off restorations?  That is our preference.  It is difficult to determine much of the needed work without taking the body from the frame.  However, that decision is left to the individual customer.

4.  Will you just paint my car?  Yes, but we will not paint unless we can prepare the car because it is the preparation of the car for painting that determines the quality of the job.

5.  How do you charge for a restoration job?  We will have you sign a contract to protect both of us.  We will take an upfront deposit that will cover the beginning of the work.  That deposit is determined by the suspected work to be done.  After work begins and we are able to better understand the needs, we will prepare a precise outline of the work to be done.  If modifications have to be done, we will contact you before doing them to get your approval.  We expect you to continue to make deposits so that you pay for the work and parts as the work is being done.  We do not expect you to pay for a majority of the job upfront.  We attempt to meet your needs and protect ourselves at the same time.

6.  Do you purchase the parts or do I?  We prefer that you purchase the parts, but in many cases the customer does not have access to that information.  Therefore, this is also done on a case by case basis. This decision will be made at the beginning of the work.

7.  Will there be any hidden costs?  It is not our intent to mislead you in any way.  You will be able to see at any time the invoices for all parts, materials, and hours of labor.

8.  Will you inspect my car and give me your opinion as to whether it is worth restoring?  Yes, but often times a person has an emotional attachment to a certain car that increases his/her decision to restore.  But, we will be totally honest with our opinion.

9.  Do you do any of the interior work?  We do not do any upholstery work.  We can help you locate someone who will do that work and we can help you purchase materials, kits, etc so that the work can be done.
